Katherine & John: an Elegant DC Wedding

Katherine and John had the kind of day that makes us love shooting weddings; plenty of sunshine, lots of fabulous DC locations, and an undeniable love for each other. We had such a hard time narrowing down our favorites, because with these two, every moment felt special. From their choice to do a spend the day together to the thoughtful gifts they exchanged, everything felt like it was so them.

We started the morning at a hotel in Arlington, where Katherine dressed with her girls, as John enjoyed some leisurely time with his groomsmen. They opted for a first look, which meant we had an entire afternoon of photos; a true luxury on any wedding day!Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos

Embassy Row Wedding: Sara + Ahmed

sara_ahmed_wedding001It was the type of DC morning every bride hopes for; warm, but not hot, with plenty sunshine to go around.   Sara planned a generous amount of time for hair and makeup, making the morning feel down right luxurious.  As she prepared to meet her husband, she glowed with anticipation. Because Sara and Ahmed were married in a private ceremony just a day earlier, this day was set aside to be a celebration of their love and commitment.  It was beginning with a first look, followed by a photographers dream come true: two full hours for formal photos, including a limo trip to the DC monuments!

Lucky for Sara & Ahmed, the Anderson House is directly next to the hotel, so after their first look, we were able to use their garden and patio area for more photos of the lovely couple! With plenty of open shade, it was the perfect setting for a few more photos!sara_ahmed_wedding017 sara_ahmed_wedding018 sara_ahmed_wedding019

After our epic photo session, it was time for the wedding celebration to officially being, complete with the traditional Zaffa.  If you’ve never attended an Egyptian or Muslim wedding, then you’ve missed out: a Zaffa is a musical processional, complete with sword fighting, musical performances, and of course dancing. Imagine the best parade ever, culminating in a wedding dinner!

Siobhan & Geoff: A Cathedral of St Matthew Wedding

We have to apologies in advance for the amount of pictures we are sharing from this wedding. Normally we pick our favorite twenty or so, but Siobhan and Geoff had such a beautiful day, we are sharing closer to fifty. I think you’ll see why! These two planned an exquisite day. Siobhan started her morning in the luxurious jefferson suite room, which is a bride’s dream space for getting ready. The girls sipped mimosas and laughed over all their favorite Siobhan memories, while the hair and makeup team was on hand to ensure everyone was looking extra gorgeous. Meanwhile, the guys relaxed and enjoyed sipping on top shelf liquor in their suite- Johnny Walker Gold anyone? Geoff clearly has good taste, but we already knew that, since he chose Siobhan to be his wife.

The day was chilly, but the rain held off, and after the ceremony we had plenty of time to make two stops for portraits; one at the White House, and one at Union Station. The wedding party were troopers- we ended up having to hike through all of union station, but it paid off in gorgeous portraits!!  The reception was just as beautiful as the rest of the day; the ballroom was glowing in candlelight and the champagne flutes were brimming when the couple arrived. The toasts were heart warming and the room was filled with love. Siobhan and Geoff, thank you so much for including us in your AMAZING day, and for trusting us to make photographs that capture the incredible love that you share. We wish you a million happy years together!

Cristena + Paul: A Ginter Park Wedding

Cristena and Paul are the type of couple that make everything fun. From the first time we met over craft beer and glasses of wine, their light-hearted nature was apparent, and it really showed through on their wedding day! Cristena had a refreshingly laid-back approach to her planning- she requested that instead of meeting them for prep photos, we arrive right before the ceremony began. It was fun to jump right into the action! The neighborhood in northside of Richmond was perfect for a backdrop for a fall wedding.

Abbie + Greg: A Sugarloaf Mountain Engagement

When Abbie contacted me about her engagement photos, I knew immediately that they were going to be a fun couple to work with. She suggested we have their session at Sugarloaf Mountain- we love when clients suggest locations we haven’t worked with before! Abbie and Greg are getting married in August, so this was a great opportunity for us to get to know each other a bit before the wedding. 2014-03-20_0002We recommend that couples bring at least two outfits so they can have a variety of formal and casual photos. Abbie & Greg started out with their dressier option, and we hit the vineyard to take advantage of the pretty light.

Callan & Julien: A Lost Creek Vineyard Wedding

callan_julien001

Callan and Julien are one of the sweetest couples you’ll ever meet. Julien is French, and Callan, a ballerina- you can imagine what a lovely pair they make. Soft spoken and gentle, they greet everyone (including each other) with a warmth that glowed throughout their entire day.  They started their morning getting ready in adjacent hotel rooms, perfecting their final details in the quiet moments before the wedding day really began. Every detail was beautiful, especially the dress, which Callan’s Mom made for her. Such a labor of love!callan_julien002 callan_julien003callan_julien004

Callan brought along her wedding invitations for me to photograph- she designed these adorable cards to match their wedding colors, and they created the perfect backdrop for the wedding rings. We had to sneak in a shot with the ringbearer’s pillow as well.callan_julien005callan_julien015 Julien and Callan opted for a First Look. This allowed them to really drink the moment in, and of course left us room for an extra photo session. Julien had done his his homework, and researched a nearby park, where we headed for a relaxed photo session with just the couple. callan_julien006callan_julien007callan_julien008callan_julien009

I love the look on Callans face- the look of a bride totally in love with her groom…

After the portrait session, we headed to Lost Creek Winery & Vineyard, where their family and closest of friends were waiting to help celebrate their marriage. Julien had many guests traveling from France. I may or may not have attempted to use my scant bit of french during the family photos. It turns out they don’t say  cheese (du fromage)when someone is about to take a picture….Never the less, the ceremony was gorgeous, with the vineyard as a breathtaking backdrop.callan_julien014callan_julien016

Before the party began, we snuck off into the vineyard for more couples portraits. Since we’d already had an earlier session after the first look, everything we were able to do after the ceremony was just icing on the cake!callan_julien025 callan_julien028 callan_julien027 callan_julien026Once the celebration began, it was easy to see that Callan & Julien had incorporated special touches, from ensuring their guests had plenty of wine to drink, to the tasty macaroons in their wedding colors as a take home treat.callan_julien029

Amanda & Kenny’s Romantic DC Wedding

kenneth_amanda_001

Amanda & Kenny are one of those couples who are just so cute, you have to “oooh” and “ahhhh” over ever frame. I was honored with the opportunity to step in when their original photographer had a family emergency the weekend of the wedding.  I spoke to Amanda the week before her wedding,  and she truly impressed with her level of calm- this girl was not going to let last minute changes throw her wedding groove off!

I was in for a real treat when I arrived at The W on her wedding morning for prep photos. Surrounded by her girls talking and laughing,  they filled me in on all the fun stories that  led up to this big day.

Meghan and Robert: a Hillwood Estate Engagement Session

Meghan and Robert are one of the most easy going couples I have ever worked with! They didn’t shy away from any pose, not even the request to climb out on the rocks in the water. Half way through our shoot, the skies opened up and it down poured-  and trust me when I say, this was no light summer shower. The weather couldn’t dampen the affection of these two- they kept an upbeat attitude as we relocated indoors.

Nothing is better than a laugh shared between two kindred spirits…

Meghan suggested that we hold our session at the Hillwood Estate, Museums and Gardens. What a gem! I can’t believe that Washington DC has had this little marvel tucked away. Meghan filled me in on the history of the art collectotion while we explored the grounds. A real treat to the photographer with a fine art education….Meghan, you were talking my language!
