Glamorous DC Wedding: Jasmine & Matt

We knew after Jasmine & Matt’s engagement session that this wedding was going to be one for the books, but there’s no way we could have predicted how romantic and downright FUN this day would be! Jasmine thought of absolutely everything to ensure that her guest’s enjoyed the wedding, right down to a custom snapchat filter.  From the moment we arrived, we could sense how much these two care about their friends & family, and how fiercely they are loved in return. Jasmine & Matt, your wedding day was such a selection of your love for each other, and we were so thrilled to document it! Choosing favorite to share was a tough job; let’s just say this wedding will probably be making appearances on our instagram feed for a really long time!

Meanwhile, the guys were attempting to work some bowtie magic. which was no small feat. Matt was possibly the sweetest almost-husband in history; he grinned from ear to ear as he talked about Jasmine, how excited her was to marry her, and even played the first dance song for us to hear.

When we headed outside for portraits, we had exactly 20 minutes of light to work with. For most people, this would be stressful, but Jasmine’s response was so perfect; “What’s a wedding without a little hustle?” They didn’t miss a beat as we rolled through family portraits, wedding party portraits, and of course the best for last…..newlywed portraits!!dsc_7503

Neillee & Dustin’s Rappahannock River Wedding

The sunny June afternoon began in Neillee’s childhood home, surrounded by love from everyone, including the family dog. We’ve seen a lot of wedding days, but this one was different; it brimmed with history & meaning.  It was clear from the moment Neillee put on her beautifully redesigned mother’s wedding dress, that this family has a beautiful legacy.

When we heard there was a framed bridal portrait from Neillee’s mother’s own wedding day, we had to incorporate it!

Meanwhile, at the family church just a stone throw away, a very dapper looking Dustin waited for the ceremony to begin!

We don’t normally have the luxury of a balcony on the side of the church aisles, so we were thrilled to have this angle; Dustin was clearly excited to see his bride for the first time!

The natural light in this church is breathtaking; a photographers dream come true!

This wedding party was a total blast to work with!

On the ride from the church to the reception (on Neillee’s grandparents property), we noticed a gorgeous grove of tree, beautifully back lit by the late afternoon sun. Neillee & Dustin are a dream couple, because it took no convincing for them to hop back on the bus to head here for portraits!!

Neillee, you are positively radiant.

Because the setting was so fantastic, we were able to finish bride & groom photos a little early and have a moment to capture the reception details.  The backdrop of family property provided a unique space for their guests to enjoy cocktails and dance the evening away.

The view of the Rappahannock river was stunning, but Neillee & Dustin only had eyes for each other…

As the sun set, we stole a moment for Dustin 7 Neillee to walk on the shores of the Rappahannock River, and enjoy a moment in the view.

As the sun went down, the party was just getting started! Delicious wedding cake, meaningful toasts, and plenty of dance moves filled the tent and spilled out into the evening sky.

A John Marshall Winter Wedding: Mark & Meredith

On a gorgeously sunny winter day, tucked into the historic downtown John Marshall hotel, Mark & Meredith celebrated their love for each other in the best way possible; an elegant ceremony surrounded by the rich love of their friend and family. From the handsome groomsmen’s gifts to the cozy faux-fur shawls for the bridesmaids, this couple put so much thought into making sure everyone was cared for. We were positively thrilled to document their day, and the fact that it took place in one of our favorite Richmond wedding venues was simply icing on the cake!

A Garden Wedding: Dave & Karen

When the Director of the Richmond’s Historic Garden Week, with the Garden Club of Virginia, gets married – you can bet there were a lot of beautiful floral decorations incorporated into this backyard wedding.  Dave, being a videographer, staged every detail – even the cloud coverage for beautiful light!  The couple began their day with a morning ceremony in the backyard of there home.  In the presence of family they were married by the friend who brought them together.  They wanted to emphasize that their marriage was the blending of their two families and Karen’s daughters had the special role of walking their mother down the aisle.  In the evening they hosted a party at the Kent-Valentine House, the headquarters for the Garden Club of Virginia.  The family celebrated with friends from all over the globe who flew in to be a part of this couple’s special day. With Mosaic catering and a special gift by a friend who happens to own Belmont Butchery , they all enjoyed amazing food in a stunningly classic, Richmond setting.

Maggie & Jeremy: A Waterfront Wedding at The Boathouse at Rockett’s Landing

Through most of the portrait session, we simply asked these two to keep looking at each other.  Their interactions were so sweet and beautiful, they didn’t need much convincing from us to cuddle up and show their fondness and love.  For the day, the couple’s main focus was on their friends and family, many of which traveled all the way from the Caribbean Islands to attend the wedding.  They brought their favorite DJ to Richmond from Philadelphia, to throw a party worthy of a night club.  From the time their guests finished eating, the glow sticks came out and the dancing never let up!  Congratulations Maggie and Jeremy, enjoy your sneak peeks!

It was the perfect spring day at Jasmine Plantation for Tom and Brooke’s outdoor ceremony.  When they promised to stay true and keep their love strong, as their jobs took them oceans apart from one another, even us veteran wedding photographers get teary.  Being so close to Memorial Day, it was extra special to be able to spend the day with this couple and their decorated family.  Brooke’s million dollar smile made her new husband grin from across the room.  Congratulations to you both!

Katherine & John: an Elegant DC Wedding

Katherine and John had the kind of day that makes us love shooting weddings; plenty of sunshine, lots of fabulous DC locations, and an undeniable love for each other. We had such a hard time narrowing down our favorites, because with these two, every moment felt special. From their choice to do a spend the day together to the thoughtful gifts they exchanged, everything felt like it was so them.

We started the morning at a hotel in Arlington, where Katherine dressed with her girls, as John enjoyed some leisurely time with his groomsmen. They opted for a first look, which meant we had an entire afternoon of photos; a true luxury on any wedding day!Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos Top of the Town DC Wedding Photos

Siobhan & Geoff: A Cathedral of St Matthew Wedding

We have to apologies in advance for the amount of pictures we are sharing from this wedding. Normally we pick our favorite twenty or so, but Siobhan and Geoff had such a beautiful day, we are sharing closer to fifty. I think you’ll see why! These two planned an exquisite day. Siobhan started her morning in the luxurious jefferson suite room, which is a bride’s dream space for getting ready. The girls sipped mimosas and laughed over all their favorite Siobhan memories, while the hair and makeup team was on hand to ensure everyone was looking extra gorgeous. Meanwhile, the guys relaxed and enjoyed sipping on top shelf liquor in their suite- Johnny Walker Gold anyone? Geoff clearly has good taste, but we already knew that, since he chose Siobhan to be his wife.

The day was chilly, but the rain held off, and after the ceremony we had plenty of time to make two stops for portraits; one at the White House, and one at Union Station. The wedding party were troopers- we ended up having to hike through all of union station, but it paid off in gorgeous portraits!!  The reception was just as beautiful as the rest of the day; the ballroom was glowing in candlelight and the champagne flutes were brimming when the couple arrived. The toasts were heart warming and the room was filled with love. Siobhan and Geoff, thank you so much for including us in your AMAZING day, and for trusting us to make photographs that capture the incredible love that you share. We wish you a million happy years together!

Ki Soon and Andrea: A Fredericksburg Spring Wedding

In the beautiful gardens of Gari Melchars Home and Studio at Belmont, Ki Soon and Andrea became husband and wife.  The romantic setting was in full bloom on April 26 when these two said ‘I do.’  Tulips and lilac filled your senses.  The site is the preserved home, studio, and gardens of the painter Gari Melchers and his wife Corinne.

It was important to honor Ki Soon’s Korean heritage in the wedding.  Most of their family members traveled long distances to celebrate with these two including Korea and Germany.  Several of their guests including Ki Soon’s mother dressed in traditional Korean formal wear for the occasion.

2014-07-10_0027 2014-07-10_0028 2014-07-10_0031The first half of the reception was celebrated with US wedding traditions.  For the second half the couple changed into traditional Korean wedding gowns and were lead through a Paebaek ceremony.  Paebaek is a Korean wedding ritual where the groom’s family formally accepts the bride into their home.    The practice has been modernized and relatives on both sides of the family are invited to participate and offer the couple their blessings.

amily members, starting from the groom’s parents, then the bride’s parents and then on to more distant relatives, will take their turn sitting in front of the table laden with various edibles and tea, to receive their bow from the couple.  The bride and groom serve tea or rice wine to each set of parents and relatives after they bow.  The parents and relatives in turn, offer words of wisdom and blessings to the couple.  They also toss them  money to start the new couple on their way.  The couple will attempt to catch dates and chestnuts as the parents throw them toward’s the bride’s apron.  According to legend, the number of dates and chestnuts caught signify how many girls and boys they will bear.  Finally, as a public display of his strength, the groom carries his new bride on his back around the table.  More information can be found on the Paebaek ceremony here.  We loved learning about this tradition mixed with thoughtful and fun rituals!
