Forest Hill Park Maternity Session

A gorgeous couple that we have worked with before?….Check!

Dreamy evening light?…. Double Check!

A family growing from two people to three?…Check, check, check!

This maternity shoot had everything we needed for capturing the next step in a family’s life. We were honored to reconnect with Jackie and Mike–the stunning couple who stole the show back in 2014  with their wedding at Montfair Resort Farms. We noticed that a few things had changed. Mike had a fuller beard and Jackie was full of expectation for “Baby Brock”, the nickname for their little one due in May. Clearly, wedded bliss is still at play three years after their wedding.

For our shoot, Jackie pampered herself with professional make-up and nails, and we spent an hour playing in Forest Hill Park. Mike nicknamed his bride,  “Magical Jackie”, and I think you can see why…..

Tell me this photo doesn’t make you smile? Finding creative ways to bring out the sense of fun with a couple is one of our favourite aspects of a photo session.

To see Jackie looking equally magical, check out  their Montfair Resort Farm wedding. We’re pretty sure Mike’s wedding day grin has only gotten bigger as their family has started to grow!

Styled Portrait Experience: Maggie & Don’s Anniversary Session

All love deserves it’s moment in the spotlight, and Maggie & Don are no exception. With their second wedding anniversary falling in September, they were the perfect match to be our first couple for our new Styled Portrait Experience!

Here’s how the Styled Portrait Experience works: To begin, we rented a fabulous location and rounded up the best hair & make-up artists in town. We brought in a professional wardrobe stylist to ensure Maggie & Don were dressed to perfection. With all the fixings of a top model photo shoot in place, and their favorite music playing on set, it made for an incredible afternoon in front of the camera.

Sara and Michael: A Dominion Club Wedding- Richmond, VA

When I first met with Sara, (over a year before their big day), I texted Allison as soon as I left the coffee shop; “I really hope we get to work with these two, they seem like wonderful people!”.  It turns out my instincts were right.  and the great thing about wonderful people is that they have wonderful weddings; Sara & Michael are living proof. We got to know these two fairly well over the last year, between their engagement session, coffee dates, and emails to check in on the plans for their big day.  as a testament to Sara’s huge heart, after the wedding she donated her dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer. Even on a day that was supposed to be all about her, she was thinking of someone else. We are impressed with just how laid back and calm Sara always was, even in the midst of the wedding madness! They truly kept their eyes on each other throughout all the details, and their love sparkled throughout the whole wedding day.

Sara and her girls prepared for the day, tucked away in a room at St Peter’s Baptist church. Sara kept her girls laughing, and even made sure we had time to recreate the cover of Bridesmaid, with a funny twist. These girls rocked that choir room with some serious sass!

Having two photographers allowed us the luxury of doing outdoor portraits before the ceremony; while I was with the ladies, Allison photographed Michael and all his handsome details.dominion_club_wedding059

Once the ceremony began, it was as if Sara & Michael were the only two people in the room. All their friends and family looked on as they said their vows, and of course, sealed their promise with a kiss.dominion_club_wedding062 dominion_club_wedding063

Lucky for us, Sara & Michael had planned plenty of time in their timeline for portraits. We headed over to Dominion Club with the wedding party just in time to take advantage of the pretty afternoon light!

We had no problem getting personality from this group of groomsmen!

dominion_club_wedding076              After we went the wedding party in to enjoy cocktails, we stole Sara and her newly minted husband across the water for couples portraits.  With a couple this in love, getting great photos is a breeze!

dominion_club_wedding077 dominion_club_wedding060 dominion_club_wedding061                                     Sara and Michael were ready to get their celebration started, so we saved a few photos for the sunset, and headed inside to party! The Dominion Club has a very cool set up that allows the bridal party to enter in on a grand staircase, giving the bride and groom a great view of their crowd.

dominion_club_wedding085dominion_club_wedding086As dinner was winding down, we stole away for a few more couples portraits in the evening light.  It’s always an incredibly romantic moment when the bride and room can steal away and enjoy each other’s company. Sara and Michael were no exception!

The evening ended on a magical note; they surprised their guests with wish lanterns! As the guests lit the paper lanterns together and released them into the starry night, we’re pretty sure they were wishing Micahel & Sara a million years of happiness.

Brian and Emily: Wedding at New Kent Winery

Have you ever been around a couple that just can’t stop making eyes at each other, making one-another laugh constantly, and who are without a doubt madly in love?  Meet Brian and Emily!  In early April, after a long and harsh winter we arrived at New Kent Winery.  They saw their last snowfall for the year only one week earlier.  The weather had finally made a turn towards spring!  The sun was out, the weather was an amazing low-70’s, and it was gearing up to fabulous day to have an outdoor ceremony.  2014-07-11_0002_blogsm

Cristena + Paul: A Ginter Park Wedding

Cristena and Paul are the type of couple that make everything fun. From the first time we met over craft beer and glasses of wine, their light-hearted nature was apparent, and it really showed through on their wedding day! Cristena had a refreshingly laid-back approach to her planning- she requested that instead of meeting them for prep photos, we arrive right before the ceremony began. It was fun to jump right into the action! The neighborhood in northside of Richmond was perfect for a backdrop for a fall wedding.

Siobhan & Geoff: A Shockoe Slip Engagement

2014-02-09_0001                         When Siobhan and I were planning their engagement session, the weather forecast wasn’t looking pretty. We kept our fingers crossed, and as I checked the update daily, it looked better and better. This was important since they were driving from two hours away! We met up in a coffee shop downtown, and headed out to explore   downtown Richmond. It’s wonderful to be able to work with couples who are from out of town, because all the charm is new to them. It’s even more special when the couple is so photogenic- Siobhan & Geoff, thanks for being such great sports on a chilly day! If the afternoon with you was any indication, we know your   wedding is going to me amazing!2014-03-03_0003 2014-03-03_00022014-02-14_0001                                            This Love instillation was up for Valentines Day- we couldn’t resist grabbing a shot!2014-03-03_00062014-03-03_0005

Sunday Afternoon: Jessica’s Bridal Session

On a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, less than a week before her wedding, Jessica and some of her close family members joined her at her ceremony sight for a bridal portrait.  Normally, bridal portraits are shot at least a month in advance, but Jessica’s dress didn’t come back from alterations until just a few days before her wedding! She kept it so cool; no bridezilla here! Jess stayed calm and collected, even has her Mom and Aunt looked on, shedding tears of happiness. In the place where she would say her vows to future husband Travis, Jessica enjoyed a few quiet moments. Jessica, we are so happy that you chose us to share all these special moments!
